Philanthropic Activities

Partners of JEENA & COMPANY, a Pioneer Firm in the business of Travel, Tourism and Freight Forwarding, more particularly, Senior Partner the late Mr. Nariman Jehangirji Katgara and Senior Partner Mr. Adi Jehangirji Katgara had been for long toying with an idea of giving back something to the Society at large out of what they achieved from the Society and thus KATGARA FOUNDATION was formed in the year 1981.

KATGARA FOUNDATION is a Public Charitable Trust registered with the Charity Commissioner, Mumbai, under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950. The main charitable objects of the Trust are: to help needy persons/Institutions in the field of medical relief, advancement of education, alleviation of human suffering etc. Over the years, the Corpus has been gradually building up and has now reached to a respectable figure in excess of Rs.1.50 crores. The Foundation has till date assisted more than 1500 persons/Institutions by disbursing in excess of Rs.40.00 Lakhs.

For the past few years, larger amounts are being donated towards the Corpus of the Foundation by the Katgara family members and the group Companies, which in turn after wise investments generate substantial return which is being used for disbursing outright grants to the deserving needy persons and eligible Institutions in consonance with the objects of the Trust. In this Centenary year of Jeena & Company's operation in Freight Forwarding, we are happy to announce that we have entered into an agreement with Masina Hospital, one of the oldest and leading hospitals centrally located in Bombay and run by a Public Charitable Trust. The scheme that we have agreed to implement is to renovate and equip 10,000 Sq.Ft. of space on the third floor of one of the Buildings of the Hospital.

The duly renovated Third Floor wing was inaugurated on 7th November, 2000, the Birth day Anniversary of the late Mr. Nariman. The wing consists of two General Wards and about 15 Deluxe/Semi-Deluxe rooms and a Maternity ward with labour rooms, all well-equipped with medical paraphernalia. The total number of beds in the renovated ward is 50. In addition to incurring large costs for renovating the ward, for providing necessary equipment for its functioning, we have further provided the Hospital Trust with a Corpus amount which will be invested judiciously and the interest earned on such investments, will be used towards maintaining this ward on a permanent basis.

In reciprocation to this Charitable Gesture, the Hospital has kindly agreed to provide at a very concessional fee, hospitalisation and all other medical/surgical facilities of the Hospital to employees of Jeena & Company, systemwise. What needs to be highlighted here is that although a staff member based outside Bombay, in the event of an emergency necessitating a major surgery, will be afforded this facility in Masina Hospital at Mumbai. We will have this facility open to all our staff members which would no doubt be to a great extent financial relief to the staff concerned as we are all aware of the high medical cost these days. The general public would also be benefited by availing of the well-equipped medical facilities of this KATGARA WING.
